Why is crona a “guy” in the english dubbed?

It’s never specified in the manga, so in the subbed he’s female, and in the dubbed he’s male. Androgynous appearences are cool!

Cronas gender was never mentioned in the Manga. They then decided to make Crona Female for the sub and Male for the dub
They decided that because Crona started to like maka so they made him a boy.
i was mentioned in the manga chapter 67 – 68 arent(?) in stores but they are online and the say it in those chapter

O.K seriously is this the only anime you watch?! In Fairy Tail the main charecter Natsu is a dude and has pink hair. And iv’e seen guys who, just for fun get Mowhawks and die their hair pink. M point has been made.
In the English language throughout history, masculine reference words have been known to refer to all genders (masculine, feminine, common, neuter). Examples would be the clause that all men are created to be equal or the fact that the genderless God is referred to as “Him” and “He.”
In Japanese, Crona is always referred to using gender-neutral personal pronouns, which to not exist in the English language. Crona is and probably will always remain androgynous, but using neutral pronouns to refer to Crona in the English dub would sound awkward (i.e. the awkwardness of Maka saying “He or she is my friend!” or “I’m going to help Crona because I care about that person. That person needs me.”)
After seeing “he” and “she” getting thrown around Crona so much, people eventually come to terms with the fact that he’s andro, and that’s a part of what makes her so incwedibly huggable to ebryone \(^_^)/

I think that some characters should have used “he” while others used “she” to refer to Crona. After all, no one (not even the characters or the creators themselves) really knows Crona’s gender, and s/he seems to be gender-confused enough to accept something like that.
In Japanese, they never use a concretely masculine or feminine word to refer to Crona, so keeping it inconsistent with a certain gender in ENGLISH really seems like it could work out well….
If that’s the friggin’ Keishan’s madness, and they’re scared of it themselves, THEY SHOULD JUST DITCH THE PLAN BECAUSE THE KEISHAN WILL KILL THEM TOO!

~At this point, the opening is still the same as it was in the first episode. The ending is a girlish song called Style by Kana Nishino. Episode 21 actually has a special version of the ending animation with kid Crona in it.

S/he says stuff about not being able to talk to girls, so I originally assumed it was a he. Still, with the dress thing and the hips… IDK.

Maka and Stein refer to Crona as a boy because that is their perception. Yet Medusa, Crona’s own mother has never used any gender specific words in reference to Crona. Just as each one of you refer to Crona. One who prefers Crona as male says “he” and as female says “she”. Cant we all just get along and set these perceptive differences aside?

I like how the ending to that episode was laden with shock value, and yet most of the comments are centred on whether the character with pink hair in the dress is male or female. I thought the face-ripping scene was well animated and quite a far cry to the more immature scenes [namely concerning a certain mister Star] throughout the series.
Poor Crona, Ragnorak is so cruel to him, even when he’s become a pipsqueak! I feel sorry for him, but Maka’s and Soul’s reactions to the fight were hilarious.

Envy was male, because it turned out that he was someone’s son (I almost said it but didn’t lmao sorry about the FMA spoiler lmao) Crona is also, in fact, male. Medusa refers to him as her son most of the time while she’s messing with people. Also, the first time he and Maka met, he was complaining about having to fight a girl. He’s afraid of talking to anyone, but girls are especially hard for him to even think about talking to. He’s just really awkward and confused about everything.
Chrona is of ambiguous (and quite possibly no, or both) gender. No one, not even the creator of the manga, knows Chrona’s gender yet (simply because it has not been decided yet). The only reason they use “he” is because saying “it” in English just sounds offensive to a human being.
Also, I’m fairly certain that sometimes girls (most often considered tomboys) have trouble talking to other girls or interacting with other girls.
Not that I’m saying Chrona’s a girl. Again, no gender right now.
To be honest, I’m seriously hoping Chrona’s either some sort of genderless test tube baby or a hermaphrodite. Just because the fan reaction of those who’ve insisted one way or the other would be sort of interesting.

Man Chrona’s gender is a REALLY hot topic here. I mean I believe that almost ever comment on this episode is about Chrona and his/her gender. I know it been stated many, many, MANY times already but now its my turn to give the explanation. Chrona’s gender was never mentioned or specified in the manga, so when they made it into an anime, and then subbed it, they made him a girl. BUT when they went and dubbed it they thought that it would make more sense if the “she” was a “he” due to the fact that a lot of people rather not watch a girl fall for another girl. Anyways, like I was saying, EVERY comment is about Chrona on this episode and he is only in it for about five seconds…so, wow. AND, obviously he is a dude here and a girl there, so why ask the question in the first place. He is like Rem from Death Note. In the manga the gender was never specified so in the subbed he is a boy, and in the dubbed he is a girl, and in the MOVIE he is a boy again. Personally, i like boy Chrona and girl Rem…but that is besides the point…Really the whole point of this comment is because i like to write out really long explanations and all that other crap. I mean i left two extremely long comments on Death Note the movie ha ha ha! I love many anime’s and manga’s and this is one of my favorites. Personally, I would like it if Maka and Soul got together. Crona reminds me of Gaara from Naruto. They both were mistreated and have monsters inside, thus causing them to become savage. They both just want to be loved and suck socially due to their lives. They both have awesome signature moves (scream resenence and desert coffin.) Oh, both of them have short messy red color-scheme hair (pink, rust colored) and pale eyes. They both have fixed, almost permanent, facial expressions. (Worried, angry.) And they are both deadly.
In the beginning it sounds like crona just had an orgasm, and maka said “its ok really” WTF!!!!

Chrona/ Crona’s gender isn’t really specified in the series because the author intended to make it a mystery for us viewers. Many think the fact that Chrona has pink hair and a robe means “deffinate female”, however, Natsu from FairyTail is 100% male, yet he has pink hair. That, and there is a number of males in series who have dress-like attire. Since the character itself would be odd to not have a gender at all, the creators decided to stick with a random gender specified for the anime. Thus, it was decided Dubbed would be male and Subbed would be female. The manga itself is another story though, where Chrona’s gender isn’t specifically given. The makers of Soul Eater thought it would be enjoyable to have a part to the series that would make us viewers curious, just like Kakashi’s mask from Naruto. It is intended to make us think and guess constantly and that is all.
So, Chrona is an “it”. Medusa is a possible cause of that too in my viewing of it… – 3- ~ ??

He was created as a gender-neutral character. Meaning, you can’t put a label on him, and is the author’s little prank on readers to make them question their own views on genders.

There is no right answer. Deal with it, and accept that Crona is Crona. It doesn’t go any deeper then that.
